Spaying
Spaying your pet offers many benefits. The procedure prevents female animals from becoming pregnant and reproducing, helping your dog or cat live a longer, healthier life. Spaying does not change your pet’s personality.
When you spay your female pet, you protect her against potentially deadly diseases, including bacterial infections, reproductive tract diseases, and several types of cancer. You also avoid the mess that often comes with heat cycles in female dogs and the pacing and crying that female cats exhibit during heat. Additionally, spaying helps control dog and cat overpopulation, keeping more animals out of shelters.

Neutering
Neutering your pet offers many benefits. The procedure prevents male animals from reproducing and helps your dog or cat live a longer, healthier life. Neutering does not change your pet’s personality.
By neutering your pet, you reduce or eliminate his risk of prostate and testicular cancer, as well as sexually transmitted diseases. Neutering also reduces or eliminates undesirable behaviours such as roaming, fighting, humping, and spraying. Additionally, neutering helps control dog and cat overpopulation, keeping more animals out of shelters.

Soft Tissue Surgery
We perform many types of soft tissue surgeries at our clinic. Soft tissue surgeries involve procedures not related to bone and can provide many benefits to pets.
One of the most common soft tissue surgeries we perform is removing masses or lumps. Most masses turn out to be benign (nonharmful) after removal and testing; however, some can be more serious. Removing and diagnosing lumps early improves outcomes, especially if the mass is cancerous.
If your dog suffers from frequent ear infections, surgery can help reduce their occurrence by improving airflow into the ear canal.
Surgery can also address several eye problems. Excess tearing may indicate an infection or damage to the cornea (the eye’s outer layer). Surgery can help the cornea heal faster with less scarring, improving your pet’s vision. In some pets, eyelashes can damage the cornea; surgical intervention relieves discomfort, reduces corneal scarring, and preserves vision over time.
Orthopaedic Surgery
We perform many types of orthopaedic (bone) surgeries in our clinic. Because we want to ensure that our patients receive the best possible outcome, we occasionally refer them to board-certified orthopaedic surgeons to perform back surgery and other very complex surgeries.
Leg fractures are the most common orthopaedic problem presented at our clinic and usually result from a mishap with an automobile. They can be treated in a variety of ways depending on the location and type of fracture. We can apply a cast to treat certain fractures; however, many fractures will require surgical intervention:
- “Pinning” stabilises the fracture by inserting a long stainless steel rod into the middle of the bone across the fractured area.
- “Plating” involves attaching a flat stainless steel plate to the bone using screws on either side of the fracture.
- “External fixation” stabilises fractures using a series of pins on the outside of the leg that pass through the skin and into the bone on either side of the fracture.
